Welcome to the Severn Valley Railway Volunteer Liaison Office

The Engine House and Education

The Engine House

'The Engine House' is our new purpose built education and visitor centre which is now being constructed alongside the Severn Valley line at Highley. Its main function is to house our collection of out of service steam locomotives. This building will open its doors for the first time in mid 2007 and will become the base for our education services to all age groups. It is anticipated that many of the current 'Education Team' will assist at the 'Engine House' in a variety of ways and, because of the size of the building, that there will be a need to recruit further assistance from the volunteer workforce. A shop and cafe will also be located at the 'Engine House'.

Education Services

The SVR operates an extensive service of activities and special events for school children of all ages. Most of these services are actively developed and supported by a growing complement of volunteer working members. Some of these working members are ex-teachers but others come to us from different walks of life and indeed from other departments of the Railway. The education team is headed by our Education Services Manager and he is assisted by the Education Officer.
