Infrastructure and rolling stock

If you prefer to volunteer behind the scenes rather than dealing with passengers, there are plenty of roles available for people who like to work with their hands. The jobs range from unskilled labouring through to advanced engineering, so there is plenty of scope to choose from depending on your interests and abilities.

Carriage restoration 

The Carriage department maintains our fleet of operational carriages and carries out restoration projects to bring non-operational coaches back into use.

Diesel traction engineering

The Traction Maintenance Depot (TMD) restores and maintains our diesel engine fleet.

Gardening and Maintenance

Station gardens need regular care to keep them looking at their best for visitors, and there are always plenty of maintenance jobs to do at stations.

Signal engineering

The Signal Engineering department installs and maintains all the signals and points required to be able to operate train services along the whole line.

Steam engineering

The steam engineering department maintains our operational steam fleet and undertakes restoration work to bring non-operational locomotives back into steam.

Track maintenance

Our Permanent Way gangs inspect the line, carry out track maintenance, and manage vegetation, hedges and fences alongside the track.

A freight train is always popular with our gala visitors, and our Wagon department in Bewdley is kept busy ensuring that our wagons are in good repair.
